Learning can happen anywhere and since preschoolers learn through experience, the richer the environment the better! The Co-op is fortunate to be situated in the heart of thriving and vibrant downtown Montclair. Our neighborhood is filled with opportunities for teaching our kids and exposing them to fascinating aspects of the world all around them.
The Co-op takes advantage of our wonderful location by embracing our neighborhood as an extension of our classrooms. Teachers and assistants regularly lead children, our older classes in particular, on age-appropriate walking trips through the neighborhood to explore nearby parks, businesses such as bakeries and flower shops, and other public institutions like libraries, train stations.
Our central location also has many great options for longer, parent-accompanied field trips. In recent years, our classes have explored the historic Crane House, the lovely Van Vleck gardens, and the renowned Montclair Art Museum.
The learning from these excursions doesn’t end once the trip is over. Our skilled teachers use these experiences as the basis for in-class discussions and activities that reinforce concepts and knowledge provided by the field trips.
At the Co-op, the world is our classroom!
